The ZigBee Alliance is committed to ensuring that quality ZigBee products are available throughout the value chain. The ZigBee Certified program leverages the expertise of hundreds of engineers and business people to ensure only quality products earn ZigBee Certified product status
ZigBee members gain many valuable advantages by certifying their ZigBee products:
The ZigBee Certified program ensures that products built using function as expected and products from different manufacturers interoperate with each other. The certification of products is also a critical part of the Alliance’s standards development process. Unlike other standards organizations, the testing and certification of products is required before any ZigBee standard is released for use. The ZigBee Certified process allows manufacturers to deliver a variety of products to customers of all types who can benefit from the simplicity of ZigBee control. Our focus on conformance and interoperability means everyone will have access to ZigBee products that perform as expected and deliver an enjoyable customer experience.
The program focuses on two areas to ensure conformance to ZigBee standards and interoperability between devices.
The ZigBee Compliant Platform program conducts a rigorous evaluation of all platforms before they can be engineered into products. Each platform is comprised of a 2.4 GHz radio and a microprocessor with storage running ZigBee firmware. The platform is tested for compliance to a ZigBee specification. This program ensures the supply chain has a solid foundation for products destined for personal or commercial use. Successfully completing this testing allows the member to have its platform recognized by the Alliance as a ZigBee Compliant Platform.
The ZigBee Certified Product program tests any product using an Alliance developed standard. The product must be fully compliant to the standard and execute all mandatory commands successfully. Successfully completing certification testing allows the member’s product to be recognized by the Alliance as a ZigBee Certified product and wear a ZigBee Certified product logo.
Only test service providers who have been authorized by the ZigBee Alliance may perform testing for the ZigBee certified program. All testing is performed by independent laboratories who have been registered to ISO 17025, the international standard for testing laboratories, and have been qualified by the Alliance as experts in communications testing who are thoroughly familiar with ZigBee technology. In order to provide our members with a choice of test service providers, the Alliance has authorized four providers from around the world.
See below for the current list of authorized test service providers and contact information.
The ZigBee Certified program allows your customers to buy with confidence. It verifies that every platform and product meets Alliance requirements and performs as expected. The program is also a very valuable benefit of ZigBee Alliance membership and it ultimately strengthens every ZigBee product’s market position.
Alliance membership is required for the ZigBee Certification process. If your organization is not yet a member, please join today. Then, please follow the three step process for certification.

What is ZigBee Certified?
ZigBee Certified is the official ZigBee Alliance program enabling certification of products that conform to ZigBee Alliance standards. The program defines various types of certifications and related policies including requirements for certification and testing programs and leverages the expertise of hundreds of engineers and business people to ensure only quality products earn ZigBee Certified product status.
Why should we get our products ZigBee Certified?
Having your product ZigBee Certified demonstrates your commitment to building interoperable products that conform to ZigBee standards. Additionally, you will be able to use the ZigBee Certified Product logo and Interoperability Icon on your product, allowing you to leverage the international recognition of the ZigBee brand. You also gain the ability to compete in markets with third-party endorsement from the Alliance.
Who issues the certification for products?
The ZigBee Alliance is the only body that may grant certification after products pass testing and all requirements are met. Testing is performed by independent test service providers who have been authorized to provide testing for our specifications and standards defined by the ZigBee Certified program..
What types of certification are available through this program?
There are two types of certifications offered by the ZigBee Certified program:
Can a company be ZigBee Certified?
Only products are eligible for ZigBee certification.
Under what circumstances may I use the ZigBee Certified logo on my products?
A ZigBee Certified logo may be applied to a product only after the product has been certified by the ZigBee Alliance. Logos are only for use on ZigBee Certified Products (end products). For full description of the logos and details of their use, Members may see the Alliance Designations and Logo Policy for complete details.
Do we need to join the ZigBee Alliance to get a product certified and how much does it cost to join?
Membership in the ZigBee Alliance is required to participate in the ZigBee Certified program. The Alliance has several levels of membership that are detailed on at on the Join section of our public website.
Our product successfully passed testing. Is it immediately certified?
Testing is only the process verifying conformance to ZigBee standards. The Alliance will grant official certification once all the program requirements have been met. Certification grants official recognition that individual products conform to ZigBee standards and that product manufacturers are conforming to all the relevant policies of the ZigBee Certified program.
May we self-certify our product? How can we reduce the certification time and cost by doing our own pre-certification?
Members are not able to self-certify. They are encouraged to conduct pre-testing according to official Alliance test plans which are used by testing service providers. Participation in test events or ZigFests will also help reduce the need for testing services.
How much does certification cost?
Testing fees are set by each authorized test service provider.
How long does it take to get certified?
The time for testing is determined by the authorized test service provider and is based on the amount of testing required for your product. Once testing is complete and the application is complete, certification by the Alliance usually requires about one week.
May we get a copy of the test specifications from the approved test service providers?
Test specifications only available to Alliance members in our Members Area.
We are planning a ZigBee product. Should we start with a ZigBee Compliant Platform? What are the advantages of doing this?
The basis for a ZigBee Certified product is a ZigBee Compliant Platform. A manufacturer whose final goal is certification must use a ZigBee Complaint Platform. Even if certification is not the goal, a ZigBee Compliant Platform provides manufacturers assurance that all necessary functionality for ZigBee communication has been independently verified.
Can we make ZigBee products without getting them certified?
Yes; however, the products may not wear any ZigBee logos or marks. Only ZigBee Certified products using an Alliance developed standard may earn the right to use those marks. Members should see the Alliance Designations and Logo Policy for more complete details.
Our product uses a ZigBee Compliant Platform follows all of the ZigBee specifications. May we promote this product as being a ZigBee product or ZigBee compliant?
ZigBee Alliance members may only advertise that they are a member of the Alliance and a manufacturer of ZigBee products. They cannot use any Alliance logos/marks/trademarks (including the word ZigBee) with products that have not been ZigBee Certified to somehow imply certification or compliance.
If we change our product, does it need to be tested again? What can we change without having it re-tested?
Generally, modified products have to be re-tested if any change affects how the product communicates using ZigBee standards. The Alliance does offer a certification by similarity program allowing for certification without retesting if the product is similar to a previously ZigBee Certified product. The only changes permitted under the program not requiring recertification include color, enclosure, language and similar changes that do not affect how the product implements ZigBee standards. Members can see complete information on this process by viewing our Certification by Similarity and Guidelines for Retesting document.
How long can a company use the ZigBee logo on a product?
Once a product is certified, the ZigBee Certified Product logo is valid for the life of the product assuming the product is not modified and for as long as your organization remains a member in the ZigBee Alliance.
Can the ZigBee Certified logo be on a printed sticker and placed on our ZigBee Certified product?
If your product has been ZigBee Certified, the Alliance requires the logo and Interoperability Icon be used on the product box, data sheets, or regulatory approval stickers. See the Alliance Designations and Logo Policy for complete details.
What is PICS?
A Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement is a document listing all parameters and features included in a ZigBee Alliance standard or the respective test document. It classifies features and functionality as mandatory or optional. The device must support every mandatory feature. The manufacturer will need to provide a PICS document in order for the test provider and the ZigBee Alliance to evaluate the product and develop test plans.
Does the Alliance maintain a public registry of ZigBee Certified products?
All ZigBee Certified products are listed on our website.
