What is JupiterMeshTM?

JupiterMeshTM is the robust, low-power industrial grade IoT wireless mesh network with flexible data rates that enables neighborhood and field area communications for utilities and municipalities deploying intelligent grid and smart city solutions. Built on open IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standards it includes IPv6-based low power networking stack  with authentication, encryption and key management and advanced radio  layer technologies such as frequency hopping, and multi-band operation, to drive industry realization of interoperable multi-vendor implementations that scale and that are secure and easy to manage.

JupiterMeshTM provides a complete solution package, including:

  • Technical profile specification, detailing requirements from existing open standards for OSI Layers 1 through 4, including:
    • IEEE 802.15.4e & IEEE 802.15.4g for Media Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layers (PHY) including CSMA or TSCH modes of operation to ensure optimum performance for different use cases;
    • IETF network and application protocols such as; IPv6, 6LoWPAN, UDP, TCP, RPL, CoAP, and others with multicast feature to ensure Internet scale machine-to-machine behavior over mesh networks;
    • IETF security protocols such as; PANA, EAP-TLS and HIP-DEX for network access authentication and key distribution, and AES-128-CCM-based message authentication and encryption;

The JupiterMeshTM specification is complete and is now in the process of validation through a series of detailed testing events using several vendor’s implementations. JupiterMeshTM is also far ahead of other specification in establishing a working interoperability and certification process with globally located test houses which certified over 1,500 product types.

What are the modulation and data rates supported?

In addition to FSK and OFDM modulation, JupiterMeshTM supports O-QPSK modulation to address reaching devices which would be unreachable with other modulation techniques. The JupiterMeshTM specification supports data rates from 6.25kbps up to 800kbps. During interoperability testing, multiple vendors successfully tested these different modulation options and data rates.

How does JupiterMeshTM compare with other Low Power WAN (LPWAN) technologies?

Existing LPWAN technologies have limited bandwidth and limited packet sizes which precludes their use for advanced IPv6 based applications. JupiterMesh also offers low-speed high-robustness options.
