“ZigBee and Wi-Fi work so well in the same environments that we not only encourage dealers to install both networks in their customers' homes, but you will see products from Control4 that have both networks inside the same box. As we were selecting transport technologies to use within our own products, we had no bias toward z-wave, ZigBee, or anything other solution.
We selected ZigBee because it had the best performance characteristics and had the added benefit of being a true IEEE standard.
We have found our 802.15.4 networks to work well not only in homes, but also in the harshest commercial conditions. When Control4 goes to the Consumer Electronics Show each year, we don't even think about how the massive Wi-Fi
noise there will effect our demonstrations. We know it won't. The 802.15.4 standard has proven itself to be rock solid in both residential and commercial environments and we couldn't be more pleased that we use it in many of our products.
Because of the excellent performance we get from our ZigBee products, there has never even been a discussion at Control4 about the need to move to a better platform in future products. As far as I know, there isn't a better control platform on the market. That is why you see industry leading companies such as Control4, Ember, Johnson Controls, Eaton, Texas Instruments, and others basing more and more of their product designs on the ZigBee platform.
While Control4 products use industry standard networks such as ZigBee, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet to make devices easy to interconnect, we by no means condemn or reject other solutions. Many products use different solutions for communications, and we are committed to continually adding to our database of thousands of third party devices so consumers can make the
choice of what products they want to use; regardless of the communications bus.”
