ZigBee and RF4CE: The Remote Control Standard for Consumer Electronics
On March 3, 2009 the RF4CE Consortium agreed to work with the ZigBee Alliance to jointly deliver a standardized specification for radio frequency-based remote controls. See the News Release or FAQ.
More Control
RF remotes are faster, more reliable and provide more freedom to operate devices from greater distances by removing the line-of-sight barrier found in today's IR remotes. They also enable advanced features such as two-way communication between the device and the remote, creating a richer experience for consumers.
This agreement significantly strengthens ZigBee's position in the overall home automation and home area networks markets by allowing more devices to be controlled by a single open standard technology than any other wireless standard today.
