Itron 

As Associate Director, Strategic Industry Standards in Itron’s Office of the CTO, Ed is accountable for developing and executing business-driven standards strategies which enable Itron’s utility customers to satisfy their commercial and regulatory commitments. Ed fosters environments where implementable and interoperable technical specifications can be developed to enable intelligent communications between and within utility and home area networks.

Prior to joining Itron, Ed held senior management positions at BNR, Nortel Networks, Catena Networks and Ikanos Communications, leading cross-discipline, multi-regional teams in the development and execution of business driven standards strategies.

Ed has held numerous positions in deliberative, consensus based technology standards development organizations where he is recognized as a visionary, pragmatic leader. These experiences provide him with a unique mix of skills – consensus building , team motivation, interpersonal communications and organizational – that drive his laser-focus on solving real industry issues through open, fair and balanced processes. Ed understands the vision of opportunity built on a foundation of technical, commercial, regulatory and political pragmatism.

Maurice has been with Philips for over 23 years and has been active in a variety of standardization activities in the past 15 years, mostly in the field of optical media.

Currently, he oversees all standardization activities in the areas of connectivity and lighting within the Intellectual Property and Standards organization of Philips.

Maurice holds a master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Nijmegen, and a doctoral degree in Mathematics from the University of Amsterdam.

John Osborne

John E. Osborne II is currently the General Manager of Research & Development and Operations Research and Sunrise R&D Holdings, LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co.). John graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Ohio University. His expertise is in computer sciences combined, business management, negotiation, and purchasing disciplines. In his career he has been responsible for several enterprise wide operational and technical projects in retail, banking, and manufacturing. Currently he is also a member of the Ohio University School of Communications Advisory Board, the Advisory Board of University of Cincinnati school of Computer Science.
   
ZigBee Alliance Chairman and CEO
Tobin J.M. Richardson

Tobin was appointed Chairman and CEO of the ZigBee Alliance in February, 2013. In this role he works closely with the Alliance Board of Directors to set strategy and then implement programs designed to advance the adoption of ZigBee standards. Prior to this role, Tobin served as the Director for Smart Energy, where he was focused on driving adoption of ZigBee in key smart energy markets.

Tobin has more than 15 years experience in strategic management and marketing for technology firms and organizations. In 2008, he directed PG&E's smart meter upgrade RFP, following three years with the California utility working with the executive team on the company's transformation process, managing stakeholder and regulatory relationships and initiatives. Prior to PG&E, Tobin directed and led business development and stakeholder management for a broad spectrum of technology and large-scale companies, including Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), numerous U.S. federal agencies, CenterBeam, Pandesic and Georgetown University. He led the turnaround of a key business unit of Georgetown University, helped drive an inter-agency initiative for the U.S. Customs Service and led new business development and strategic partnerships for an IT outsourcing firm based in Silicon Valley. Tobin has managed strategic partnerships with technology industry leaders, including Microsoft, Intel, Dell, and SAP in technology and marketing initiatives.

Tobin currently serves as Secretary for the U.S. Smart Grid Interoperability Panel's Testing and Certification Committee, Co-Chair of NAESB's Energy Usage Information standard committee, and participates actively on NEMA's Smart Grid Task Force and the CEA'S Smart Grid Working Group. Tobin holds a masters from Georgetown University, and a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis.

Bob Heile 


In 1990, he was one of the founding members of 802.11 and continues in an active role today. With GTE, Bob was responsible for wireless opportunity business development. Bob joined BBN in early 1997, prior to its acquisition by GTE, with the mission of commercializing wireless ad hoc networking and wireless PAN technologies. From 1990 to 1996, he was vice president of engineering and business development for TyLink Corp, a bootstrap start-up in high-speed digital access products and network and circuit management software, and was a co-founder of Windata, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of wireless LANs. From 1980-1990, Bob was with Codex, a subsidiary of Motorola, where he was vice president/general manager of the company's modem business.

Bob holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oberlin College and Master of Arts and doctorate degrees in physics from The Johns Hopkins University.

Kinney Consulting

Patrick is the president of an independent consulting company, Kinney Consulting LLC, specializing in Wireless Communications and serving both large and small companies for their wireless needs. Previously he was a vice president of communication technologies at Invensys, responsible for directing communication efforts throughout Invensys's divisions.

He has 28 years experience in the design, development, and deployment of communication systems and products. He is the co-vice chairman and secretary of the IEEE 802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks and the chairman of the IEEE 802.15.4a Task Group. He is also the secretary of the ZigBee Alliance and its Gateway Working Group chairman.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame Indiana.

Thomas Barber is the Director of Marketing for ZigBee products in Silicon Labs' Embedded Systems group. Previously he was the Senior Marketing Manager for Silicon Labs' Human Interface products. He joined Silicon Labs in 2010 as a Senior Business Development Manager. Prior to Silicon Labs, Mr. Barber held Marketing Director positions at ST-Ericsson and NXP Semiconductors, focusing on RF and baseband products for mobile communications. He also has served in marketing manager roles for cellular platforms at Analog Devices. Mr. Barber holds an MBA from Northeastern University, an SM (Master's Degree) in electrical engineering from MIT and a BS in electrical engineering from Michigan Technological University.
   
Brett Bonner, P.E.

Brett joined The Kroger Co. in June 2006, and currently is Senior Director of Research and Development, reporting to the Chief Information Officer. Previously Bonner worked for Kellogg Company and Federal Express where he held the positions of Managing Director and Vice President, FedEx Internet Technologies Corporation.

Bonner's expertise is in management sciences combined with the engineering disciplines of mechanical and electrical engineering, computer science and programming, and optics. He has a number of patents with additional patents pending. Since 1996, direct measurements of profit from his technologies have now exceeded $5 billion USD.

Bonner graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Memphis. He also attended graduate programs at Western Michigan University, Rennesslaer Polytechnic Institute and Concord University School of Law.

Jean-Pierre joined Schneider Electric in 2002 to take the position of Electronic and Software research director.

Previously, Jean-Pierre spent 20 years in the Telecommunication field in various R&D positions: electronic design, software design, software development manager, and radio department manager at EADS Telecom where he has been involved in the TETRAPOL technology specification and was managing the development teams in charge of base stations and radio terminals equipping the public security forces of several countries in the world.

Jean-Pierre graduated from the High National School of Telecommunication, Paris.

Ryan Kelly

Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.

Ryan is the Global Wireless Connectivity Marketing Manager for Freescale Semiconductor responsible for IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee platforms. His focus includes defining product platforms, managing them throughout development, bringing them to market and engaging and supporting strategic global customers.

Ryan commenced his career as an intern as Motorola Semiconductor, now known as Freescale Semiconductor. Upon completing his Masters, he started his fulltime career as a digital circuit designer and IC layout engineer. After six years are purely technical work, Ryan transitioned to the business side and directed product definitions, marketing strategies, sales support and new product launches.

For the past six years, Ryan has managed a multinational marketing and applications engineering team responsible for starting and growing emerging short-range wireless technology. In this role, Ryan has created, promoted, sold, and supported product platforms and strategies for consumer, medical industrial and smart energy markets.

Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University in 1996 and a Master’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering specializing in Communication Systems from Arizona State University in 1997.

Ruben is the director of research and technology for Cellnet Technologies and retained the position following the acquisition of Cellnet by the Landis+Gyr Group. In his current assignment, he oversees the evolution of communication technology for advanced metering infrastructure applications and also oversees the standardization activities for the Energy Management Services branch of Landis+Gyr.

He moved to San Carlos, Calif., in 2000 with the integration team for the newly acquired RF communications company, Cellnet Data Systems, as the manager of systems engineering. As manager of system engineering and innovation, he has been involved with the evolution of Cellnet communication systems and managed the initial development of Cellnet's two-way mesh technology for metering applications.

From 1994 to 2000, he occupied diverse engineering managing positions related to the integration of RF modules in water, gas and electric meters. 

Ruben received a doctorate from the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble, France. 
   
Mark Smith

Mark is the consumer smart energy solutions business architect at Reliant Energy, the leading provider of smart energy products and solutions in the competitive Texas retail electricity market.  He is also responsible for representing Reliant in both state and national smart energy standards organizations.  He joined Reliant in 2002, initially leading systems and operational processes implementation as Reliant transitioned to the competitive market.

Mark has more than 20 years experience in hardware development and systems engineering.  Prior to Reliant, Mark spent 10 years at Compaq Computer Corporation in production operations and engineering leadership positions of increasing responsibility. His focus was on lean manufacturing and quality in support of Compaq’s Desktop and Workstation business units.

He holds a master's degree in Systems Engineering from North Carolina State University and a bachelor of science in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Bruno joined Legrand as a RF engineer in 1997. Since 2005 he leads the Electronic and Software department of the Legrand Group’s Radio Frequency & Voice, Data and Image competencies center.

Previously, Bruno spent 10 years in the wired and RF telecommunication field in various R&D positions as electronic designer or project leaders.

Bruno holds a Master’s degree in Electronic Embedded System from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France.
